Barceló Formentor vibrates with the magic of maestro Zubin Mehta
300 fortunate people enjoyed an unrepeatable event: a concert directed by one of the most important batons in the world, that filled the bay of Formentor with the music of Beethoven.
Spectacular, unique, unrepeatable, emotional. The Formentor Sunset Classics cultural event at the Barceló Formentor was all this and more: Maestro Zubin Mehta directed the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra (Florence) in a sensational concert overlooking the sea.
The Indian conductor (Bombay, 1936), delighted the 300 guests who filled the venue with a concert that honoured the name of the initiative. Starting at sunset, it comprised two of Ludwig van Beethoven's most fundamental pieces: the Symphony nº6 in F major, op. 68 "Pastoral" and the Symphony nº3 in E flat major, op. 55 "Eroica".
The hotel most involved with the art world was converted in this way into an amplifier of the music that enveloped this privileged enclave in the north of Majorca.
The son of Mehli Mehta (founder of the Symphonic Orchestra of Bombay), Zubin Mehta's career as conductor has been meteoric, and he has taken over the baton from numerous conductors in the most prestigious orchestras. His great versatility breathes life into any repertoire, from the classics to the most intricate contemporary scores, and his spectacular, deeply personal style of conducting, makes him one of the favourite conductors of music lovers everywhere.
And so, the success of the "Zubin Mehta in Mallorca evening" consolidated the success of the Formentor Sunset Classics cultural initiative which started on the 22nd of June with "The Russian Epic", a tribute to classical Russia directed by one of the most highly acclaimed Russian conductors, and head of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, maestro Mikhail Tatarnikov.
